Agree with Gary. There's no reason NOT to implement 3D charts unless it is stealing development resources from other feature requests. From a technology point of view, it would be implemented as a separate module, so if you don't need it, just don't use that module.
From a readability point of view, charting authorities seem to forget that sometimes charts are half information, half decoration. If the single purpose is to communicate the data values, don't use background images, 3D and fancy effects. But in many cases the purpose is to create a nice visual effect. Instead of using a nice background visual, create a nice chart and you even add a bit of information to the decoration...

I think it is clear that some people want the facility and some don't. I am not sure what all the "drama" is. Most charting packages provide an option to produce 3D. If you want it - there will always be reasons why. If you don't want it - same thing.
I am fully aware that 3D can be used to mislead. But, it can be also used to enhance. And, when you have a marketing department breathing down your neck to get 3D charts..... there is very little that will persuade them otherwise.

3D charts, especially bars, are misleading because when you view it in perspective, you can't really tell if the value it represents is the front or the back of the top plane. 3D charts are kind'a catchy when you want to show off to somebody in a sales presentation or something like that, but isn't very useful otherwise. If it were to me, 3D would be a low priority.

To the bizarre 3D chart haters out there... Why would it _EVER_ matter to you if the makers of highcharts added an option for 3D-charts? Unless they need to change the way the lib works or dependencies, I dont see why so many here seem to feel grief over this? Is it some math/statistics fetish thing?
I say implement it, and give users the option - and leave the sad greivers to their grief. The best new feature to implement to the chart lib would seem to be the one creating most value for the product, pleasing the most customers and finally increasing Highcharts sales. Indeed this seems to be the 3D chart if one uses this board as a data set on the matter...

3D charts need to be banned! They only serve to mislead the results and confuse people. Die 3D charts die! (all in fun, but please don't use 3D charts)

The 3D pie chart is the only thing we use that is missing from High Charts. Here's the best example I can find:

We are looking for a local chart lib as a replacement for google chart. The High Chart looks great, but also looking others. If Highchart could have 3D Pie Charts, we would buy it right away.
Our clients think 3D pie chart is a must have... -

I strongly support this! Our Company is using this, and colleagues say if HighChart have a option of 3D Chart will be perfect!

I second that - please don't!
Things like 3D should be at the bottom of the list for a quality charting app!Focusing on more diverse and statistically useful chart types would be far more beneficial than useless visual flash...

3D Charts can be very beneficial for giving some perspective. I think that this is a great idea!

I 2nd this, an option for rendering anything in 3d would be great. It's the only feature that we use in our current project that makes me think the client may not go with highcharts for the renderer.
