3D Pie charts can so easily distort reality. Please avoid it!

Thank you so much for planning on 3D charts this year. Please let us know when you have an approximate release schedule.

Hi Dick, Davin,
We have plans to start working on 3D charts this year.

Torstein this is getting important, can you provide us with a timeline for when you intend to attack 3D charts. As I see it 3D Bar Charts, 3D Pie charts are essential. 3D surface contour maps would be great as well. Radial gradients are not good enough. We are having issues with real customers concerning the lack of visual appeal. We love what you have done so far but this is becoming critical for us.

We have used the Software FX ChartFX charting package since 2005 but it is dated and requires .NET and .NET security settings on the client for the full feature charting. We are now trying to move to HTML5, MVC, and a JavaScript charting package. At this time, we prefer Highcharts because it is easier to associate our data with a specific series and it works great on the desktop, phones, and tablets. Highcharts is also much smoother when displaying the tooltip data points. jChartFX is sluggish but the tooltips data points eventually display. Highcharts also seems to work much better on phones and tablets than jChartFX. jChartFX also has very few jQuery/JavaScript object examples that work. Most of the examples show discrete lines of function calls. We use C# objects on the server to set up our chart, series, and axis properties from a SQL database and then use JSON to convert the settings to jQuery/JavaScript objects on the client. SoftwareFX has promised to improve on the jQuery/JavaScript object examples and add them to jsFiddle but they have no date when that will be finished. Highcharts provides direct links from their documentation to jsFiddle examples that work so it is very easy to see how each setting works.
Since our customers have had 3D charting through the Software FX ChartFX charting package since 2005 they insist that we still support 3D charting. If Highcharts had 3D functionality we would not need to consider jChartFX or any other charting package. -

Thanks Davin, the jChartFX charts look great, and I've been waiting a long time for HighCharts to bring out 3D charts. I'm going to consider moving to jChartFX. Why do you prefer HighCharts to jChartFX?

jChartFX from SoftwareFX http://www.jchartfx.com/ has 3D charts. When will you have them? We prefer Highcharts but we must have 3D charts for our customers.

There are responses from us further down here as well as in the status of the request. We are constantly discussing how to approach this - what we agree upon is that when we start developing 3D, we will do it properly with full support for perspective in X, Y and Z dimensions.

Personally, I would like to see 3d bar and pie charts. The others ones aren't really necessary. Of course most purists would say that no 3d chart is necessary at all. But as a programmer for hire, I'm in no position to "convince" my customers what is good for them.
Hopefully you guys will find the time to offer a bar/pie 3d solution.

Guys please, this is required. You cannot sell a software for hundreds of dollars and not have 3D charts. All your professional competitors already have this. The only ones that don't are open source solutions.
Besides that, I love your charts and will purchase them as soon as you have a 3d version.

I would like to reinforce Mr Anonymous, our customers are underwhelmed with the look and feel of our graphs, most of it is merely with respect to lack of 3D. The functionality is great, but the lack of 3D is becoming an issue. Please put this on your road map.

Hello Tostein,
I was wondering if there is any update concerning the 3D charts?

Pete - on the other hand, I've always considered it my job as a designer to educate the client on why bad ideas are bad ideas, and what other methods are available that will serve the goal of quality while delivering a high value aesthetic at the same time.

I think we all know that 3D charts are fluff. But the issue here is that most other chart competitors have them because that's what clients find visually appealing.
I personally prefer traditional 2d charts but I know exactly what would happen if I include them in a clients web application. The first thing they would say is "Can you make it into a 3D chart instead". You should really consider a 3D version. Its not only about what traditionalist want, we also need to take into consideration what the end user wants.

3D is the most common charts that company use for their report today. It would be nice if Highcharts has that feature.
