.. yeah, it might be possible to draw the line + draw the range series, but then the range wouldn't be logically connected to the line in any way, doesn't seem clean to me (e.g. so that a changing line would also change the band, or that is uses the automatically nearly the same colors etc.etc.).

I think having the ability to fill the space between two splines is what we need. Creating your "confidence intervals / error bands" would be easy enough.

Think about it, you could have a graph of a wide spline that thins out over time (due to depleting resources or something) and shows the price of the resources over time... similar to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Minard.png

I am doing this now by creating 2 stacked areas that are controlled by the same label. Is a dirty/ugly trick but it works for the moment.

PS... My use case involves an error that is variable over time
